As I hauled the vacuum to the foot of the stairs and began to hook it up, a thought came to me. I was getting the sense that God was trying to tell me something, so I stood still and thought for a minute. What if the Holy Spirit had the same attitude about me that I had about our house? Can't you just hear it now,
"That Lydia. I keep washing her clean and washing her clean, but she never stays that way! As soon as I make her soul lilly white, she goes and says a harsh word to her little sister, and I have to start all over again! When will she learn to behave?"
Can you imagine? We would never be able to measure up to such a standard. We live in a fallen world and we are doomed to imperfection, and were we left to ourselves we would sink father still. But no, we have been promised, thanks to our Savior's cleansing blood, full atonement for every sin. Does God rebuke? Yes. Does He correct? Absolutely. And does He forgive? Always.
Vacuuming will never be the same again.

Wow! Great post! I am glad you stopped and listened to the Holy Spirit Lydia! Too, often, I complain and grumble, feel that little prickle of conscience, and wipe it away and ignore it. I know I shouldn't. I really need to learn to listen more. If I did, I might actually learn something, like you did, about myself that I need to fix! =:)
Blessings!

Beautiful post but I also had to chuckle at the first part. When you're a Mom, it's "why am I doing this - it'll be dirty five minutes from now!"
Wonderful post, Lydia. What a great reminder. I'll try to remember to think about this next time I do some vacuuming, which is practically everday;)
Usually when I start to complain to myself about vacuuming or something that is mundane and routine I stop and remind myself that what i'm doing is glorifying God. He does notice the little things.

Very insightful Lydia. It can be a struggle sometimes to do the same task every day/week (I know, I struggle with this too), but like you said, the important thing to remember is that God has given us that task to do and we need to do it to His glory. Grandpa pointed out in His sermon this past Sunday on the first commandment that any time we fail to do something to the glory of God, we have disobeyed the first commandment and made something else to be a god.
Wow, excellent post, and very insightful. I've always groaned at how our house manages to get itself dirty day after day, even though I just scrubbed it from top to bottom. But when you compare dirty carpets or floors to how we get ourselves into messes all of the time, it makes you a little more willing to clean! I'm always amazed at how God never gives up on me. And hey, what do you know? I just finished vacuuming and mopping our floors ;)
